Since we’re all in a football mood here at VCARB HQ, we thought it was most fitting to have a football-themed poster, too. So off we went to our Creator Platform to enlist @flossburns.art for our latest race design, and we think it’s a kicker, ngl. If you want to be part of the Creator Platform, get involved.
Along with our ‘41’ Lindblad and ‘30’ Lawson replica jerseys, we had an accompanying livery for the VCARB 03. Here’s the car in all its glory (extra time may be required to enjoy this one).
Hold on, let us count you in for the weekend. One, two, SKIDDLY DOO.
For our Friday kick-off, we were straight up to speed, carrying the momentum from our stellar weekend in Monaco (it was a double points finish btw). P7 for Liam and P9 for Arvid put us right at the sharp end and in contention for some points come Sunday.
In the meantime, we swapped team kit, had a flick through the recent Red Bulletin, featuring none other than our own Arvid Lindblad and spread the VCARB FC love with some limited-edition scarves, brought to you by our Creator Platform fashion designer, Hattie Crowther (@hattiecrowther). Ezra Alexander (@eoeuvre) was on site snapping behind-the-scenes content across the weekend.
In Qualifying on Saturday, we were this close 🤏 to a double Q3 entry, but we missed out with Arvid by a fraction of a second. Still, that’s yet another Q3 for our resident Kiwi. Here’s his post-quali debrief.
With that said, let’s get onto the race, eh? There’s plenty to tackle…
Arvid started P11 and Liam lined up P8, both on the Medium tyres in what was set to be a hot 66-lapper around Barcelona. Arvid gained two spots on the opening lap, so it was VCARB P8 and P9 as we headed into the first stint of the race. On Lap 11, Hulkenberg and Hadjar made their way past Arvid on alternate strategies while Liam maintained P8 until he pitted for the first time the following lap. On his new set of Hard boots, Liam fought his way back through the pack, re-entering the points on Lap 20 with a move on Bearman.

Arvid made his first stop on Lap 23 and started his second race stint in a close battle with Hulkenberg. Since the Barcelona sun was beating down on the tarmac, nobody was getting away with just one tyre change. Liam and Arvid pitted again on Lap 37 and 39, respectively, with hopes to take their fresh Hards to the end. On Lap 41, an unexpected Virtual Safety Car came out, with Alonso stopping on track.
Our closest on-track rivals were able to capitalise on a ‘cheaper’ pit stop. Nevertheless, once we were back up and running, the hard work had already been done. One more VSC for Antonelli on Lap 63 meant all we had to do was make it to the chequered flag, waved by Novak Djokovic, no less, to claim back-to-back double points finishes: Liam in P8 and Arvid in P9. What. A. Screamer.

Here are the thoughts of our boys after another stellar weekend:
"It was a difficult race today. We came into it expecting to be more competitive, but unfortunately we struggled for pace compared to the cars around us. We were also unlucky with the VSC, which allowed Gasly to pit and come out ahead of us, making our race even more challenging. We'll go away, review everything and look at what we could have done better to maximise the result. Despite today's result, there are still plenty of positives to take away. We've shown strong pace throughout the weekend and the season so far has been encouraging. We've managed to score points in most races so far too, which is a testament to the hard work everyone is putting in. We're in a good place as a team and there's a lot to be optimistic about, so I'm looking forward to Austria and excited to see what we can achieve there."
"Overall, we had a decent day, and it's a good result for the team to get both cars in the points once again after Monaco. That being said, we'll regroup with the team and see what things we could have executed better, as we lost some time during the race. We were fast during the second and third stints, but coming from so far back meant that it was more of a catch-up game opposed to really being able to utilise our pace to gain positions. Regardless, the team has given us a strong package, which I'm happy with. After the last few weekends where we raced in unique circuits, it's been nice to show strong pace also here in Barcelona, which is more of a standard high-speed track. Hopefully, this means the car will be well-suited for upcoming tracks, starting with getting back to racing at the Red Bull Ring in two weeks."
